I was watching the Nightcrawler movie last night. The main character was not really my
hero. I do not like the idea of chasing bloody crime scenes. But how realistic is the movie?
The main character was using police scanners. We already have a
Marlborough Police Log on our web site, but are police scanners legal???
Surprisingly, yes. There is no law in Massachusetts or Marlborough prohibiting usage
of police scanners.
You can even embed a podcast to your own web site:
Or download an iOS, Android or Windows Phone app. Just search for
"Police Scanner" in your App Store.
Some states prohibit usage of scanners, some cities encrypt their frequencies, but
this is not a case in Marlborough, MA. The explanation is that the encryption
could cause miscommunication between different departments.
But I am still not sure if this is a good thing that the scanners are not prohibited
and frequencies are not encrypted. Don't you think that criminals planning their crimes
in Marlborough could use scanners to monitor police activity too?
Especially since scanners are so easily accessible using any modern smartphone. Let us know, what do you think?
